Test Area Description

Tuesday the 22/4/2008

With Greg Plevey From Wormtec worm farming and vermiculture and the Coombabah state school and two year Four/Five classes.

Test area on oval marked out into four large rectangle boxes with one box been divided into three. So in total we have three large test areas and three small test areas.

The three large areas are area one, two and three       We are testing two seaweed products with our worm extract and our worm extract as a control in these three large areas.

Soils Testing by Student The students have been very involved in the soil testing before any products have been applied, and will be carrying out further testing as is required. The students have tested soil Ph, compaction, measured root lengths and watched as core samples were taken for sending to the Soil Food Web Institute and Southern Cross University for independent testing.

Soil Ph 6 to 6.5

Soil compaction

Root Length   10mm

Core samples 100 mm deep, Soil very dry, No organic matter, Very sandy. No smell

Area One Wormtec worm extract plus Australian seaweed with the addition of organic fish and humate to feed the soil biology

Area Two Wormtec worm extract plus the addition of fish and humate to feed the soil biology

Area Three Wormtec worm extract plus South African seaweed with the addition of organic fish and humate to feed the soil biology

The three small areas are area four, five and six

The students applied river sand, worm castings and blue cracker dust to the three small  test areas. This test area is to see if the minerals and nutrients contained in these natural occurring products have any effect on the grassed area and soil biology. No water or extracts will be applied to these three small test areas

Area Four Southern Side Students applied two buckets river sand to test area. No water or extracts were applied to test area.

Area Five Middle Area Students applied two buckets worm castings to test area. No water or extracts were applied to test area.

Area Six Northern Side Students applied two buckets blue cracker dust to test area. No water or extract were applied to test area.
